Legislative Internship

Office/Department: State Representative-Elect Julie Brixie

Caucus: Democratic

General Description: The office of Representative-Elect Julie Brixie is currently looking to fill internship positions in her Lansing office.  Representative Brixie represents the 69th House District, which includes the City of East Lansing, and Meridian, Williamstown and Locke Townships.  Interns will have the opportunity to assist Rep. Brixie and her staff in general office operations, including constituent relations, scheduling, communications, social media, event planning, policy research, and developing and monitoring legislation.  Selected candidates will gain valuable hands-on policy and legislative experience in a fun and fast-paced environment. 

Pay Range: This is an unpaid position, but college credit is possible. (See your school’s Internship Coordinator or Academic Advisor.)

Start Date: January 2019

Work Schedule: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays (preferred availability), some Monday and/or Friday hours may also be available.  Specific schedule is negotiable and will be determined on an individual basis.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must be a student, veteran, or participant in job entry program. Applicants should possess strong written and verbal communication skills, a positive attitude, and previous office experience, including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.  Knowledge of the Legislature is desired but not required.  Applicants should have writing samples and references available upon request.
