Legislative Internship

Office: Representative Wittenberg

Description: The office of Representative Robert Wittenberg of the 27th House District is currently looking to fill an internship position for the 2107 fall semester.  The goal of this internship experience is to provide political leadership development and training through exposure to a wide range of responsibilities and tasks that are essential to running a legislative office in a fast-paced environment. 

A Legislative Intern will gain valuable hands-on experience in a stimulating political setting with increasing responsibility as proven by ability.  The selected candidate will assist Representative Wittenberg and his staff with the following responsibilities: monitoring legislation and committee activities, research projects, communications and press relations, constituent affairs and outreach, written correspondence with groups and individuals within the 27th District, answering phones, and general office management.  Additionally, he or she will gain behind-the-scenes insight and have opportunities to network by attending committee hearings, briefings, House Session, one-on-one meetings, as well as various functions relating to state government, local government, and the 27th district. 


Schedule: Mondays and Wednesdays preferred.  Specific hours and length of internship are negotiable.

Salary Range: This is an unpaid position, but college credit is possible.  (See your school’s Internship Coordinator or Academic Advisor.)

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must be a student, veteran, or participant in job entry program. An ideal candidate will possess a positive attitude and have mastered basic computer skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to work efficiently and independently are preferred. Previous office experience as well as knowledge of the Legislature and the legislative process is a plus, but not required.
