Legislative Intern

Description: A Legislative Intern will assist the Representative and his staff with constituent affairs, communications, general office management, data entry and miscellaneous tasks related to pending and upcoming legislation, committee hearings and constituent inquiries. Some responsibilities will include answering phones, compiling data, monitoring legislation, and researching and drafting correspondence to groups and individuals within the district. Students will gain valuable hands-on experience in a fast-paced office environment. They will gain career competitive experience using the Michigan Caseworker Manager database. They will also have opportunities to network and attend committee hearings, briefings, House sessions and other state and local government related functions. Hours are negotiable.

Salary Range: This is an unpaid position, but college credit is possible. (See your school’s Internship Coordinator or Academic Advisor.)

Minimum Qualifications: Previous office experience is preferred, but not required. Knowledge of the Legislature and process are helpful, but not required. Writing skills are preferred. Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications are requested.
