Legislative Internship

Office: State Representative Steven Johnson

General Description: The office of Representative Steven Johnson of the 72nd District is currently looking to fill internship positions for the 2018 winter/spring semester (January through May).  In general, an intern will be expected to provide assistance to the Representative and members of the Legislative staff, ranging in the areas of legislation, communications, constituent affairs, general office management and miscellaneous tasks.  Some responsibilities will include but are not limited to: answering phones, monitoring legislation, doing research, writing tributes, general office management and written correspondence to groups and individuals within the District.  Individuals will gain valuable hands-on legislative experience in a fast-paced environment.

 

Work Schedule: Minimum commitment of two business days per week is required.  Specific hours are negotiable.

Pay Range: This is an unpaid position, but college credit is possible. (See your school’s Internship Coordinator or Academic Advisor.)

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must be a student, veteran, or participant in job entry program. Strong verbal and written communication skills, computer skills, and knowledge of Microsoft Office are required.  Previous office experience and knowledge of the Legislature and legislative process are helpful, but not required.  Students from all disciplines are encouraged to apply.

Caucus: Republican

The position is a non-civil service appointment to state government.  All employees of the House of Representatives are considered at-will.
