Democratic Legislative Intern
General Description

State Representative Dan Scripps is a Democrat from the 101st House District, which is composed of Leelanau, Benzie, Manistee and Mason Counties.  He is currently seeking one-two legislative interns for the winter semester to assist in all the responsibilities of running a busy and effective Lansing office.  Responsibilities will include answering phones, filing and assisting with general office work, researching and responding to constituent concerns and inquires, researching policy issues, drafting written correspondence to groups and individuals within the District, conducting community outreach and attending student and community events. There will also be opportunities to attend committee and session meetings. Additional responsibilities will include writing tributes, thank you and congratulatory notes, clipping newspaper articles and data entry.  Hours are negotiable. Students will gain valuable hands-on office experience in a fast-paced environment.  Hours are negotiable, but must be worked out prior to intern start-date.

 
Salary Range
This is an unpaid position, but college credit is available (if applicable.) 
 
Minimum Qualifications

Excellent writing and interpersonal skills, dependability, attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Must possess the ability to interact professionally with a broad range of people from diverse backgrounds and the capability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and to adapt to a very dynamic environment. Previous office experience, letter writing skills and knowledge of the Legislature and legislative process is a plus, but not required. Commitment to the values and ideals of the Democratic Party. Competency with Microsoft Office is required. Please provide up to 3 writing samples and at least 1 letter of recommendation.
